It has two words in it first is hari and second is dwar. The meaning is the entrance to god gate. It is an ancient city and important Hindu pilgrimage site in North India’s Uttarakhand state, where the River Ganges exits the Himalayan foothills. It is the starting point for Uttarakhand char dham yatra and famous for its Ganga aarti. People visit here if there family member dies. Indians belive that if they will flow bones of their family member in Ganga they will go to heaven.

Haridwar Weather

The best time to visit is October, November, December, January and February. In peak Season it will be cwowdy . March, April, May and June period experiences hot weather. In rainy season you can go to Rishikesh. My personal favorite is November month. Kumbh mela is biggest fair of the world and that time it has different vibes.

Delhi to Haridwar is 220 Km, You can reach here by train, bus or Flight.

By Air

Jolly Grant airport is the nearest Airport. There is a direct flight from Delhi to Dehradun which will cost 1000-1500 Rs. You can book a taxi from Dehradun to Haridwar the price will be around 1500 Rs. the distance is almost 40 KM.

By Train

Haridwar Is a junction and very well connected via trains. I travel here fromUttar Pradesh to Delhi and from there direct train. it has connectivity from all cities of India. Railway Station is in middle of the city. This is the cheapest and easiest way to reach here.

By Bus

Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and other near by big cities have direct bus facilities to Haridwar. You can services of Laxmi holidays or primo buses as they have good buses. Delhi To Haridwar is only 236 KM and takes about five to six hours. you need to pay minimum 300 rs for normal bus and for Ac bus the fare can be around 700 Rs

Hoteles In Haridwar

Shivmurti Chowk is the main area of Haridwar it is in front of railway station and 500 M from bus stop. This area is good for normal budget category hotel and my personal favorite. I always stay in Gujrati lane as it has many hotels, dharmshalas and other some free options too. If you want good hotels you may find it on goibigo, if you are planning to stay near ganga ghat there are many offline options too. You will find hotels starting from 300 Rs per day to 10000 Rs per day in Haridwar.

Places To Visit

Har Ki pauri : it is the most famous place. You can reach here via auto, this is crowdest place. There are many hotels and restaurants. The drops of Amrit fell over from the sky here, being carried in a pitcher by the celestial bird, Garuda after the Samudra Manthan. Every day, Har Ki Pauri ghat witnesses hundreds taking a dip in water of the Ganges. Each evening at sunset, the priests of Har ki Pauri perform the Ganga aarti.

Mansa Devi Haridwar : Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most revered temple of Goddess Mansa Devi located at Bilwa Parvat near Haridwar. This temple is a holy place to worship Goddess Mansa. Mansa Devi temple is a famous Siddhpeeth and offers panoramic views of Haridwar city. You can reach by ropeway or foot. I hired scotty and easily reached here. You can book ropeway online.

Chandi Devi haridwar : Temple is one of the major tourist attraction. It is religious site of this town. This is around 3 km from Chandighat. It is one of the Shidhh peeth. The temple is devoted to Goddess Chandi and it is situated on top of Hill peak. You can reach here through ropeway only which cost you 163 one way. The complete cost of chandi devi and mansa devi for both way is 550 Rs per person.

Kankhal : Daksh Mahadev Temple is the main attraction , which is dedicated to lord shiva. There is a banyan tree which is said to be holy, it fulfills all your wishes. It is 7 km from har ki paudi. This is one of the oldest temples of Haridwar.

Shantikunj Haridwar : You Must Visit this place in Haridwar, this is situated at Rishikesh road and the entry is free. You can enjoy free meal sometimes. There are many gates to enter in it. You need to show Aadhar card to enter. They sell khadi clothes and give a guided tour.

You can visit Bharat Mata temple, Vaishno Devi Temple and spend some time at Ghats.
